Here are three key takeaways from our Home Care Insights video with Cynthia Ferris:
✅ 1. Don’t rely on the summary page.
That “summary of benefits” is just that—a summary. It’s often outdated and doesn’t include newer riders or current daily coverage rates. Always request an updated benefits statement directly from your insurance company.
✅ 2. Know your exclusion period.
Most policies require a waiting or “exclusion” period before benefits kick in. But here’s a tip: even part-time care may count toward that timeline. Review your definitions section carefully—especially if care has already started.
✅ 3. Check for a premium waiver.
Once your policy is activated, you might not have to keep paying the premium. Many policies include a waiver once benefits begin, saving you money each month.
Finally, you don’t have to tackle this alone. Whether you need a quick review or help calling your insurance company, we’re happy to assist. In fact, many of our clients simply authorize us to speak with the insurer directly saving you time, stress, and lots of hold music.
